This "Berbice Chair" was a lot more time consuming than I thought it should have been. It turned out that the finish applied previously was a fiber-glass resin with a varnish coat over. The stripping took two and a half days; a total of 20 man-hours labour. Repairs had to be done to the chipped edges (dog bitten), and I decided to give the edges a softer look which I thought would give the chair a richer look so I applied a quarter inch radius round-over; in my opinion (and the client) it worked. As usual I applied a three layer "satin polyurethane varnish" as the finish.

The seat was caned by another craftsman.
